- Video Xref
- Oscar Winners
-
- This is a full implementation of Video Xref but with a dataset
- limited to Oscar Winners. The full version of Video Xref has a
- database of more than 12,000 titles, over 4,500 directors and
- 19,000 actors. There are more than 76,000 cross reference entries.
- It requires 4.5 megs of hard disk space. Although it will run on
- slower machines, a 286 or faster computer is recommended. The price
- is $29.95. Use the document "Order.Frm" to order the complete
- version. If the Oscar Winners edition proves useful and you do not
- wish to order the full dataset a registration fee of $10.00 is
- requested. Please make your check payable to Xref Computing.

- MENU OPTIONS
-
- Menus - You can access menu choices by either pressing a function
- key or using the cursor keys to move to the menu choice.
-
- Find Title - You will be prompted for the name of the title you
- wish to view. While in the Browser Screen you may look up another
- title by pressing the F2 key.
-
- Actor Cross Reference - You will be prompted for the actor's last
- name and given the option to view the titles sorted a number of
- different ways. The program returns to the sort menu to allow
- viewing the actor's movies in the other sort orders.
-
- Director Cross Reference - Same as Actor Cross Reference.
- Two Actors in a Film - This feature is the same as the Actor Cross
- Reference except you are prompted for the names of two actors. Only
- the films in which they appeared together will be presented in the
- Browser Screen.
-
- Actor & Director - This feature is the same as Two Actors except
- you are prompted for the name of an actor and a director.
-
- Word Search - Find titles based upon the appearance of a given
- search string in the title.
-
- Films by MPAA Rating - View all films with a given MPAA rating.
-
- Films by Critics Rating - View all films based upon a composite
- rating by various critics. Films are rated on a **** star system,
- with the absolute worst films given a Dud rating which is
- equivalent to zero stars.
-
- Films by Category - View all films by category.
-
- Advanced Selection Options - The best way to narrow down your
- selection options. You may view titles based upon various
- combinations including:
- Range of Years - Beginning and Ending Year
- MPAA Rating
- Critics Rating
- Category
-
- At least two specific criteria must be selected. Selected titles
- may optionally be marked with a "T" for use in the marker utilities
- section.
-
- Oscar Winners - View Oscar winners. All winners or just those for
- certain individual categories. All menu options except "All" and
- "By Year" may optionally be sorted by year.
-
- Marker Utilities - These utilities can be used to view and
- optionally list to a file titles that have been marked in other
- sections of the program. The various markers may be universally
- reset using this menu.
- Except for the "T" mark the various markers have user defined
- meanings. You may wish to use the check mark for movies in you own
- collection, the "#" mark for titles you wish to see and the "X"
- mark for titles you have seen but do not own. Their meaning is up
- to the user.
- The "T" marker is reserved for films marked in the Advanced
- Selection menu. Films selected in that menu can be combined for
- viewing in this menu. For instance, the Advanced Selection menu
- could be used to mark all **** rated Foreign films and then all
- ***1/2 rated Foreign films. Thus browsing through the "T" films
- would yield a combined database of all Foreign films rated at
- ***1/2 or ****.
- If the films are listed to a file the titles for each marker may
- be found in the following files:
- Check Mark: Marker1.lst
- #: Marker2.lst
- X: Marker3.lst
- T: Marker4.lst
- Memos: Memo.lst
-
- Utility Programs
-
- Addstor - If your local video store has the Video Store Xref
- program you may mark the titles they carry in your home database by
- using a file that they provide on a floppy. Copy the file
- 'Addnum.Txt' to the subdirectory where your cross reference program
- is installed. Run the program 'ADDSTOR'. Titles that the store
- carries will be marked with an 'S'. If your local video store
- doesn't have Video Store Xref, give them our address and we will
- provide them with information on the video store version.

-
- Errors, Omissions, Etc.
- Every effort has been made to assure that the information
- provided in this program is accurate. Some movies are released with
- more than one title. Others with varying MPAA ratings or running
- times. Others even have inaccurate data on their packaging. Please
- feel free to inform us of errors, but please inform Xref Computing
- of the source for your information. Not all titles are available on
- video.
-
- Problems
- If Video Xref fails to run correctly there are three probable
- causes. It may have run out of hard disk space in which case some
- other files may need to be deleted. There may not be enough RAM.
- Memory resident programs may cause this problem. Or the "Files"
- command may not be large enough. Use a text editor to place (or
- modify) the following command in the "Config.Sys" file in the root
- directory of your hard disk.
- Files=20
